About
This homeschool course introduces children to the Appaloosa horse at a Grade 5-6 reading level. Learners explore the breed’s history with the Nez Perce people, its connection to Idaho, and the work of the Appaloosa Horse Club to preserve the breed. They will learn to recognize common coat patterns and breed traits, understand simple facts about the leopard complex gene, and observe how Appaloosas move and work on trails. The course also connects horses to Idaho’s land, landmarks, and a fun ice cream potato activity. Facts about the breed are based on official Appaloosa Horse Club resources.
